10 NOVEMBER 2008 - THORNFIELD APPOINTS NEW ARCHITECT TO ADVANCE SMITHFIELD PROPOSALS

Thornfield Properties has appointed renowned architect, John McAslan & Partners, to lead its new design team to bring forward fresh proposals for its Smithfield estate, in the City of London.

Over the past few months, Thornfield has been reviewing its approach to this important site, in discussions with the City of London Corporation, English Heritage and other important stakeholders.

Thornfield Properties Chairman, Jason Marcus, says: ‘Thornfield is completely committed to the long term future of this important site. We are delighted to currently be engaging with both the City and English Heritage to work together in producing a scheme that can bring the site back into active use and contribute positively, not only to the immediate location, but also to London as a whole. In this connection, we believe the consensus reached on the architect appointment is an important step forward. It is clear that what is required is a unique scheme, of which all stakeholders can be proud.’

Michael Capocci, Thornfield Properties Chief Executive, adds: ‘We wish to be completely transparent in our approach to this site and will ensure that all stakeholders are given every opportunity to work alongside us. We appreciate that English Heritage places a great deal of importance on partnership. We are engaging with them and our new design team to ensure the highest standards of design are met. We have total confidence that John McAslan & Partners is the perfect architect/design company to lead such an exercise.’

Peter Bennett at City of London Corporation says: ‘As property owners, we would like to see the regeneration of this site and positive proposals for it being implemented. We will be working alongside Thornfield and its new design team at John McAslan & Partners, to ensure that a successful scheme is brought forward.’

John McAslan, Managing Director at John McAlsan & Partners, says: ‘It is a privilege to be appointed on this prestigious project and we are confident that we can produce a quality scheme worthy of this important location.’
